The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) is a multidisciplinary institute for providing academic training in patient care. The institute provides training in frontier areas of Neuro Sciences. The Lunatic Asylum established in the latter part of the 19th Century renamed as Mental Hospital in 1925 by the erstwhile Government of Mysore. The All India Institute of Mental Health was established in 1954. On 27 December 1954 the Government of India amalgamated both these institutes and formed the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS).
