Education in Bangalore was provided through religious schools till 19th century, religious leaders of particular religion controlled these schools. The western system of education brought into practice during the reign of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, when two schools were established in the region. Later in 1851, the Wesleyan Mission established a school. In 1858, the government established the Bangalore High School.
Bangalore, also known as the Science City or Cyber City of India has become an education hub for students from both India and abroad. The educational institutions here have excelled in the deliverance of high-standard education in various disciplines to enable students prepare for a highly competitive working environment. Bangalore has been able to achieve a high literacy rate of 83.91% with the help of several initiatives taken by the State Government and the local authorities.

Large numbers of colleges are available in Bangalore; also there is no dearth of institutions in Bangalore for providing post college education like Post Graduate Programs, Research Programs, etc.
